Comments & Replies

Everything riders share on the HUB has one conversation under it: posts, GPX files, Signature Tracks, places, services, events, news, videos, roadbooks and trip journals. Reply to a comment, or to a reply, like it, and on the things riders rate, add your stars to your own comment.

Where Conversations Are

Each item has a single conversation. Whether you open it on the website or in DMD2, you see the same comments.

  • The home feed. Every card shows how many comments it has. Click the count to open the conversation right there, without leaving the feed. A post has no page of its own, so this is where its conversation lives.
  • GPX files, places and services: Reviews & comments on the item's page. A review is simply a rider's comment with their stars on it.
  • Signature Tracks: the track's comments, where you can also add up to four photos to your comment. A second comment from you is a new comment; it no longer replaces your first.
  • Roadbooks in the public catalogue: Reviews & comments, as on a GPX file.
  • Events and news: comments on the event's or the article's page.
  • Videos: every video has its own page now, with the player, its description and its comments. Video links in the feed open it.
  • Trip journals: comments beside a journal you listed publicly. You always see the comments on your own journals.

Reading a Conversation

Comments and their replies

Comments show as bubbles with Like and Reply under each one. Replies are tucked under the comment they belong to: View 3 replies opens them and Hide replies folds them away again. A reply to a reply says whom it answers, so you can follow who is talking to whom.

Order and more

Newest or Oldest at the top of the conversation sets the order. A long conversation loads in pages: View more comments brings the next ones. On a rated item, the top line shows the average and how many riders rated it.

A link to one comment

Copy link in a comment's ··· menu copies a link to that comment. Opening the link scrolls to it, opens its replies if it is one, and highlights it for a moment. Links from your notifications work the same way.

Comment removed

When a comment that has replies is deleted, it stays as Comment removed, so the replies under it still make sense. A deleted comment with no replies simply goes.

Commenting & Replying

  • Write in the box at the top of the conversation, Write a comment…, and click Post. Signed out, the box is a Sign in link instead, which brings you back to the same page.
  • Reply under any comment or reply opens a box under it, Replying to the rider you are answering. The × cancels it.
  • Like under a comment likes it; it turns to Liked. Click again to take your like back.
  • A comment can be up to 4000 characters. If you post a lot of comments in a few minutes, the HUB asks you to wait a little before the next one.

Reviews & Stars

On GPX files, Signature Tracks, places, services and roadbooks, reviews and comments are one conversation. There is no separate review form: when you have not rated the item yet, the comment box has Rate it with five stars, and the box asks you to Share how it was — or ask a question…

  • Stars are optional. Leave them off to just ask a question; you can rate later.
  • Each rider rates an item once, and the stars sit on your own top-level comment. Once you have rated, the box shows You rated this with your stars. Replies never carry stars.
  • To change your rating, Edit the comment that has your stars: pick other stars, or Clear them.
  • Deleting that comment deletes your stars with it; the HUB asks first.
Reviews written before conversations arrived are still there. Each one became its rider's comment with its stars on it, and the replies to it became replies.

Editing, Deleting & Reporting

The ··· next to a comment holds what you can do with it:

  • Edit your own comment. An edited comment says Edited.
  • Delete your own comment. On something you shared (your GPX file, your place, your event, your post…) you can also delete other riders' comments, except a comment that carries a rider's stars: their rating stays theirs.
  • Report someone else's comment: pick why (spam, offensive or abusive, misleading, inappropriate, or something else). A moderator looks at it.
  • Copy link, described above.

Knowing Someone Answered

When a rider replies to your comment, comments on something you shared, or likes your comment, it shows in the bell, grouped by conversation, with a Reply right there. Click it to open the item at that comment, or mute a conversation you no longer want to hear about. The bell is described under Notifications & the Bell; DMD2's HUB has the same list, and its conversations are in the DMD2 manual's HUB chapter.
