Roadbook Generator
Turn a GPX track or route into a rally roadbook at hub.dmdnavigation.com/roadbook — tulip diagrams, headings (CAP), distances and danger marks generated for you, then refined row by row — and ride it in DMD2 or print it.

Starting a Roadbook
An empty Roadbook Creator: import a GPX or draw on the map.
The Roadbook Creator opens on Create a rally roadbook:
- Import GPX — My GPX searches your GPX Files, Upload file takes one from your computer (or drop it in);
- Draw on map — draw the route yourself.
From Roadbooks, Edit on a roadbook opens it here, and uploading a plain GPX there offers Create Roadbook from it. HUB at the top right goes back to Roadbooks.
The top bar holds the rest: Import GPX, the distance unit (km / mi), Reset, Rules, Check, GPX, PDF and Save to Roadbooks.
Generating the Rows
Once the track is on the map, Generate roadbook? offers to build the rows for you: a row at each junction and bend that matters, with its tulip, heading and distances. For a route planned in the Web Planner it uses the route's own turn instructions. Before you Generate you can set:
- Skip bends gentler than so many degrees;
- A row at least every so many km;
- Side roads at junctions drawn in the tulips;
- Include paths (footpaths, bridleways) as side roads.
Not now leaves the track without rows, to add them yourself.
The Map, the List & the Preview
A generated roadbook — every row on the map, and the roadbook as it will print.
The map
The tools on the left: Add a row on the track, Track to change the line, Snap+Join, Delete, Undo and Redo. Switch between topo and Satellite, and hold Z to magnify where you point.
The roadbook panel
The number of rows and the length on top (for a planner route also the estimated time, paved share, climb and steepest grade). Switch between the Editable list and the Roadbook preview; Add row adds one; select several rows to delete them together. Double-click a row to edit it.
Editing a Row & Its Tulip
Editing row 4 — the compass on the map, the tulip on the right.
Edit roadbook row zooms the map to the row with a compass around it, and opens two tabs:
- Tulip & symbols — draw the tulip and add symbols and notes;
- Details — the row's name, type, heading and the rest.
Save row keeps your changes, Cancel drops them, Delete row removes it.
Drawing the tulip
Select, draw freehand, draw a line, Add road, erase, add text, pick a colour and brush. Roads come in the roadbook styles: road, track (dashed), small road, larger road (double), motorway (triple) and footpath (dotted). Regenerate tulip from track starts the drawing again from the map.
Tulips, symbols & waypoints
A library of ready Tulips, Symbols and Waypoints, filtered by category, with ★ My symbols for your own: Upload an SVG, PNG or JPG for the tulip or for the notes.
The row's details
Name; Type — the rally waypoint types DSS, ASS, WPV, WPM, WPS, WPE, WPC, WPN, WPP, DZ and FZ, each explained; the CAP heading; Danger from 0 to 3; a Speed limit; the cumulative distance (worked out for you); the waypoint's Open radius and Clear radius; Fuel; Show coordinates; and Allow nav to point.
Roadbook Rules
Rules sets how DMD2 lets the rider use the roadbook:
- FIA Compliant — locked to the rally rules;
- Training / Club — you choose: Use the map while loaded, Show roadbook path on the map, Show my position, show the validation radii, reveal masked waypoints, voice cues, speed-zone penalties, a practice chrono, allow navigation to a point, and an off-course warning. Apply rules keeps them.
Check, Save & Export
Check
Check looks the roadbook over and its badge counts the issues it found, so you can fix them before you ride.
Save to Roadbooks
Give it a Title, a Description and Tags. The check result shows in the window (All checks passed., or the number of issues — you can still save). It goes to your Roadbooks, and from there to DMD2. Saving a roadbook you opened from Roadbooks updates it.
Export PDF prints the roadbook as A4 pages, Roll pages (148 mm wide) or one Continuous roll.
GPX
GPX downloads the roadbook as an OpenRally GPX file, for other rally apps and devices.
In DMD2
Riding the roadbook — opening it from the HUB, the roll, the buttons, the rally features and the rules you set here — is in the DMD2 manual's Roadbook chapter. DMD2 can also generate a roadbook on the device from a route or track.
