Trip Sharing & Trip Journals

Start a share

Open the HUB and tap the Trip Sharing card, or use the Trip Sharing row in Quick Actions. The start form asks for an optional title and your privacy choices, then Start Sharing creates the link.

Once the share is live, a red Trip Sharing button appears on the map with the number of people watching. Tap it to open the panel. The panel has four tabs — Trip, Message, Photo and Place — in a rail on the left in landscape and along the bottom in portrait. The Trip tab holds the trip name (tap Edit to rename it at any time), the trip values, the link (Copy Link or Share Link to send it by message) and Pause; Finish sits at the foot of the rail and asks for a second tap.

Privacy options

Your location is always part of a share; that is what the page is for. Everything else is your choice, and the delay covers the pins too: a photo taken at noon shows up on the follower page at one o’clock with a one-hour delay.

What followers see

The link opens a page on the DMD HUB website that works on any phone or computer, without an account. It shows your avatar and name, a Live or Paused badge, your position moving along the road at your real speed a few seconds behind you, the trail you allowed, and a timeline with everything you shared. Pins appear on the map as you reach them, and the trail is drawn up to where you are, never ahead of you.

• Map or Satellite — the same map the planner uses, with 3D terrain and relief. The satellite view is clean imagery with town and village names on top.
• Right now — your current speed and altitude, while the share is live and if you allowed speed.
• Trip values — distance, total and moving time, average and top speed, climb, in the follower’s own units.
• Timeline — messages, photos and places with the time and the nearest town; a place shows its category badge and description. Tapping an item zooms the map to it.
• Photos — a gallery with a full-screen viewer, previous and next.
• Relive — on a finished journal, a playback flies along the ride: the camera follows the road, each message, photo and place pops up as it is reached, and stops longer than three minutes are skipped with a “Stopped for…” card. Scrub the timeline, or move the map yourself and pick Follow rider to return.

The page keeps itself up to date while it is open. When you pause, followers see a paused badge and the position stops; when you finish, the page shows the finished journal, or a note that the trip has ended if you discarded it.

During the ride: messages, photos, places

Each tab lists what you shared of that kind, newest first, with Edit, Hide and Delete.

• Edit — the text of a message or a caption; for a place, its name, category and description. The change reaches the page within seconds.
• Hide — the item leaves the follower page and the feed but stays in your journal, tagged Hidden; Show brings it back.
• Delete — removes it from the trip for good. A place already saved to My Locations or written into the GPX stays there.

From your phone: the companion

The unit on the bike records the trip; the phone in your pocket adds to it. Sign in with the same account and everything you post lands on the same trip, at the unit’s newest position when the phone has no fix of its own.

• DMD HUB app (iPhone) — open My Stuff → My Trips. While the unit shares, the page shows Sharing from your unit with the link, the same Message, Photo and Place composer, and the timeline with edit, hide and delete. You can pause and finish the unit’s trip from there, or Share from this phone instead to move the recording to the phone.
• The website — hub.dmdnavigation.com/account/profile/trips/live/ on any phone: quick messages, a photo from the camera, and a place with its category and description.
• A second DMD unit — its Quick Actions row reads Sharing on <your other device> and opens the same companion view, with the panel’s tabs.

Sharing from the iPhone

No unit on the bike today? The DMD HUB app shares a trip on its own. Open My Stuff → My Trips, or tap the share button on the map and choose Share a trip. Give it a name, pick the same privacy options, and Start sharing. The phone posts your position in the background at the unit’s cadence, the share button turns red while it runs, and Pause, Resume and Finish work as on the unit. Points queue without signal and go out later; the trip survives a restart of the app.

The map’s share button offers both kinds of sharing: your position for your riding group, and a trip for anyone with the link.

Finishing: journal or discard

Finish asks for a second tap, then offers two toggles and the choice:

Keep as Trip Journal, or Discard — and Cancel if you tapped Finish by mistake. The GPX can stay in My GPX Files either way.

• Keep as Trip Journal — the ride stays on the HUB as a journal: the full track, the timeline with photos and messages, the final values, and the GPX. The link keeps working, public or only for you.
• Discard — the trip is deleted from the server. Leave Keep the GPX in My GPX Files on to keep the track in your library anyway.
• My Trips folder — the GPX of a kept trip lands in a My Trips folder in My GPX Files and syncs to your devices like any other file. The places you saved as waypoints are in it, with their symbol and category, the first and last photo become the file’s photos, and its off-road share is filled in from the map data within minutes.

Your trips on the website

Sign in to the DMD HUB website and open My Trips under My Library. Every share is listed with its state, distance, photos and notes, and the followers it had at peak.

• Open, Copy link, Keep, Delete from the list. A trip that ended on its own shows how many days remain before it is deleted, with a Keep as journal button.
• Edit a journal: title, description, whether anyone with the link can see it or only you, whether followers may download the GPX, a fresh link if the old one got around, and the timeline — the text of a message or caption, a place’s name, category and description, hide or delete. Click the track to add a message or a photo at that spot after the ride.
• Quick add from a phone — while your unit shares, hub.dmdnavigation.com/account/profile/trips/live/ posts messages, photos and places with their category onto the live trip.

Your recorder is not affected

Trip Sharing has its own recorder and its own trip values. It never touches the GPX Recorder, the trip meter, the odometer or your recordings. You can record a ride and share it at the same time; they are independent, and pausing one does not pause the other. The journal’s GPX is the share’s own track — the only crossover is a place saved as a Waypoint while the GPX Recorder runs, which the recorder writes into its file too.
