Your Roadbooks

Roadbooks (Beta): New Roadbook, New Folder and Upload; a search box; Your Files with a folder, Rally training 2027, and three OpenRally roadbooks with their length, waypoints and date

Roadbooks — a folder and three OpenRally roadbooks, with length, waypoints and last change.

Roadbooks is a store of its own, independent from your GPX Files. Your Files lists your folders and roadbooks with their Length, waypoints (Wpts) and when they last changed; PDFs are marked PDF, and roadbooks other riders shared with you say who shared them. Open a row to see its roadbook rows: tulip, heading (CAP) and distance.

  • New Roadbook opens the Roadbook Creator;
  • New Folder organises them;
  • Upload takes an OpenRally roadbook (.gpx or .xml) or a roadbook PDF.

Upload an ordinary GPX file and the HUB says it is Not an OpenRally roadbook and offers Create Roadbook from it in the Roadbook Creator. PDFs are not made here: upload one, or export it from the Roadbook Creator.

Working With a Roadbook

Right-click a row (or use its menu button) for what you can do with it:

An OpenRally roadbook

Edit (opens it in the Roadbook Creator), Download, Share link, Publish to catalogue, Move to..., Duplicate, Rename and Delete.

A roadbook PDF

Open, Download, Share link, Publish to catalogue, Move to..., Replace file (riders who have it get the new version), Rename and Delete.

Share Links

Share link opens Share roadbook. Pick the kind of link:

Locked

Riders get it in their DMD app, kept in sync with yours, without a download. You can take it back at any time.

Download

Riders keep a permanent, editable copy and can download it. Copies already collected cannot be taken back.

Then set, as you need, Available from, Access expires, Link expires, Max downloads / user and Max collections, and Create share link. The window lists your Active links and the riders who collected each one. The links work the same way as the GPX Files share links, and an event's File Links share roadbooks the same way too.

The Roadbooks Catalogue

Roadbooks in the HUB's Rides menu is a catalogue of rally roadbooks riders share with the community — OpenRally roadbooks and roadbook PDFs — as All Tracks is for GPX files, and it works the same way. The map shows the area each roadbook rides as a box, with a card for each beside it; hovering a card lights up its area. The map has the same controls as on the GPX pages: Options for the base map and layers, a button that fits every roadbook in view, full screen, and a handle to drag it taller or shorter.

Above the cards, Search looks in titles, summaries and tags; Filters narrow them by country, difficulty, length, language and kind (OpenRally or PDF); Sort orders them by newest, length or title; and Map shows or hides the map. Each newly approved roadbook also shows in the HUB home page feed as a Roadbook card, with its own Roadbooks filter beside GPX Files and Signature Tracks.

A roadbook's page

Each roadbook has a page laid out like a GPX file's. The header shows its cover, title, author and last update; coloured tags for its type, continent, country, distance, difficulty, language and rules (FIA or training), plus its own tags (click one to find roadbooks with it); and the buttons All roadbooks, Add to my roadbooks (Sign in to add when you are signed out) and, if the author allows it, Save my own copy. Below come the map with its area, About this roadbook, its Photos (cover first) and Reviews & comments, where signed-in riders rate it and write, moderated as on GPX files. On the right: Roadbook contents (rows, start and finish, speed zones and the rest), Created by, Ride it in DMD2, Share this roadbook, how many riders added it, and Report.

Add one to your roadbooks

Open a roadbook for its photos, stats and area, then Add to my roadbooks. It shows in Roadbooks under Shared With Me and in DMD2's HUB roadbook list, and follows the author's updates. If the author allows copies, you can also save your own editable copy, which does not get updates. Report tells the HUB team about a problem with it.

What riders see first

Riders never see a roadbook's rows or its route before they add it: the catalogue shows only its photos, summary, stats and the area it rides, widened by 2 km.

Publishing to the Catalogue

In Roadbooks, open a roadbook or a roadbook PDF's menu and choose Publish to catalogue. The same button then tells you where it stands: Catalogue: draft, Catalogue: in review, In the catalogue or Catalogue: sent back.

  1. Write a Title, a Summary (up to 280 characters) and a Description; pick the Difficulty (1 · Easy to 5 · Expert), the Language and the Country; add up to 8 Tags; choose whether riders may save their own copy; and Save.
  2. Add up to 10 Photos; the starred one is the cover.
  3. For an OpenRally roadbook the catalogue works out the distance, the rows and the area itself, leaving out every masked waypoint (WPM). For a PDF, draw the area it rides on the map (click two corners) and give its Distance (km).
  4. Then submit it. If you have more than 20 community points, or are a DMD Star, it goes public straight away (the button says Publish); otherwise it is Submit for review, and an admin approves it or sends it back with a note.
  • When you change a published roadbook, say what you changed in What changed; riders who added it get the new version.
  • While it is in review, Withdraw to edit takes it back. Open the public page shows it as riders see it, and Reports from riders lists what riders reported.
  • Each roadbook in the catalogue earns you 3 community points, as a public GPX file does, and counts towards Top Roadbook Contributors.
  • Unpublish takes it out of the catalogue, and its points with it. Riders who already added it keep it; nobody new can add it.

In DMD2

DMD2 opens your roadbooks, the ones shared with you and the ones you added from the catalogue from its HUB roadbook list, and keeps the PDFs for offline use: see Roadbook in the DMD2 manual.
