License Keys

A Thork Racing license key licenses DMD2 on one device. This page explains the two kinds of key, where to find yours, how to activate it and move it, and what each message in the app means.

Two kinds of key

Thork Racing issued two kinds of DMD2 license key, and every one of them keeps working. They look alike but work differently. When you activate a key, the app shows which kind it is, and so does the DMD HUB website.

DMD2 Lifetime Map License

Shown in the app as Map View Lifetime

  • Bought on its own from Thork Racing.
  • Works on any Android phone or tablet that runs DMD2.
  • Used on one device at a time. You can move it to another device whenever you like.
  • Never expires.
DMD2 Edition License

Shown in the app as DMD2 Edition

  • Included when you bought your tablet: a CARPE iride v3 or v4 (except the v4c), a TRIPLTEK T93 or a Garmin Tread.
  • Belongs to that tablet only. It can’t be used on a phone or on any other device.
  • Reinstalling DMD2 or resetting the tablet is fine: activate the key again on the same tablet.
  • Never expires.

Finding your key

Your key is in the order e-mail from Thork Racing, and in your account on thorkracing.com with your license keys.

  • What a key looks like. Most keys have the form DMD2-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX. After DMD2- a key uses only the digits 0–9 and the letters A–F, so an O is always a zero. A few older Lifetime Map keys follow a different pattern; enter those exactly as shown.
  • Copy and paste it. Pasting avoids typing mistakes. For a DMD2- key, upper or lower case, spaces and missing dashes don’t matter, and if the line you paste has more text around the key, the key is picked out of it.
  • A DMD device’s serial number is not a key. DMD Navigation devices need no key. To use DMD2 on your phone or tablet with a DMD device’s license, register the device instead: see Registering Your DMD Device.
  • Keep it private. A key can be in use on only one device, and whoever activates it first has it.

Activating your key

  1. Make sure the device is online. Activation needs an internet connection once.
  2. Open Quick Menu → Settings → Global → License. The screen is called License Check; the Global Settings page shows where the Quick Menu is.
  3. Sign in to the DMD HUB first. If the top of the screen says Not Signed In, tap Log In to HUB and sign in, or create a free DMD HUB account there. Signing in links the key to your HUB account. That is what lets you see the key on the HUB website and move it yourself later; a key activated without signing in can only be moved by support. Newer versions of DMD2 show the key field only once you are signed in.
  4. Under Thork Racing Offline Key, paste your key and tap Activate.
  5. The app confirms with License activated. The section now shows your license, the key, and Bound to: followed by the name of the device it is in use on.

Once active, the key keeps working without internet. When DMD2 starts with a connection, it re-checks the key, at most once a day.

In DMD2 4.018 and earlier, the top of the License Check screen reads Not Signed In while you are signed out, even if your key is active: for a key, the Thork Racing Offline Key section is what counts.

One device at a time

A key is in use on one device at a time. Activating it anywhere else is refused with This key is already bound to another device, followed by the name of the device it is in use on.

  • Device names are technical names. A CARPE iride v4b, for example, appears as CarpeIter CI_pad_v4b — Android 13.
  • The named device can be the one in your hand. Reinstalling DMD2, clearing its data, a factory reset, or switching between the website (APK) version and the Google Play version gives the device a new identity, so to the license server it is a new device. Moving your key covers what to do.
  • The device a key leaves loses the license the next time DMD2 starts there with a connection and re-checks the key.

Moving your key

Forgot to release it? Sign in to the DMD HUB on the device with the account the key is linked to, then tap Activate: the key moves over by itself. That works once every 7 days; otherwise release the key on the HUB website.
A Lifetime Map License to a different device Tap Release From This Device on the old device, or release the key on the HUB website, then activate it on the new device. If the new device is signed in to the account the key is linked to, you can skip the release: activating moves the key (once every 7 days).
A DMD2 Edition License to a different device Not possible. The key works only on the tablet it came with; see Two kinds of key.
The old device is lost, broken or sold Release the key on the HUB website, then activate it on the device you want. If the key isn’t listed there, contact support.

Your keys on the DMD HUB website

Sign in at hub.dmdnavigation.com and open Account & Security → Licenses. Each key shows the license, the full key with a copy button, whether it is In use and on which device, and a Release button.

  • Release frees the key at once; activate it in the app on the device you want. The device it was on keeps the license until DMD2 next re-checks the key there.
  • Only keys activated while signed in with this HUB account are listed. If your key is missing, it was activated without signing in: contact support and we link it to your account.

Thork Racing account or DMD HUB?

Thork Racing account — thorkracing.com

Where your key was bought: your orders, invoices and license keys.

DMD HUB — hub.dmdnavigation.com

Where you manage a key: which device it is in use on, and releasing it. Also your account for sync, groups and trips.

DMD2 ignores the activation count on thorkracing.com. Your Thork Racing account may show a key with no activations, or with all of them used. DMD2 doesn’t use that count: the DMD HUB decides which device a key is in use on. Removing an activation on thorkracing.com does not free a key for DMD2; release it in the app or on the HUB website instead.

Troubleshooting

The messages below appear under Activation failed when you tap Activate.

This key was not found. Check for typos and try again. Thork Racing has no key with exactly this text. Copy the key again from the order e-mail or your Thork Racing account and paste it. After DMD2- only 0–9 and A–F appear, so an O is a zero.
This key was rejected: That is a DMD device serial number, not a license key. … You entered the serial number of a DMD Navigation device. DMD devices don’t use a key: a registered device licenses your HUB account. On the DMD device, sign in to the HUB and choose Settings → Global → License → Register This Device. Then sign in on this device with the same account; if it still shows no license, tap Check Again. See Registering Your DMD Device.
This key was rejected: That is the example shown in the key field. … You entered the sample format from the key field. Use the key from your Thork Racing order e-mail. It looks like DMD2-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX.
This key was rejected: That is not a license key. … or … holds more than one key. … What you pasted has no key in it, or has several different keys. Copy just one key from the order e-mail and paste it.
This key is already bound to another device: … Release it there first, or contact support. The key is in use on the device named. If that name matches the device in your hand, the device has a new identity after a reinstall, reset or version switch. Sign in to the DMD HUB on this device with the account the key is linked to, and tap Activate again. Otherwise release the key on the named device or on the HUB website. Key not listed there: contact support.
This key activates only on CARPE iride v3/v4, TRIPLTEK T93, or Garmin Tread. Your current device isn’t compatible. This is a DMD2 Edition key. It works only on the tablet it came with. Activate it on that tablet. For this device, see the other ways to license it on Download & License.
This key was rejected: DMD2 Fantic Edition licences have expired and are no longer valid. The Fantic Edition license that came with CARPE iride v4c tablets has ended. This key can’t be activated any more. Download & License lists the other ways to license the tablet.
This key was rejected: … (any other reason) Thork Racing reports that the key can’t be used, for example because it was disabled. Contact support with your key and your Thork Racing order number.
Thork Racing server is unreachable. Try again in a moment. The license server couldn’t reach Thork Racing just now. Try again in a few minutes. Nothing was used up.
Could not reach the licensing server. Check your connection and try again. The device has no internet connection, or it dropped. Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile data and try again.
Activation could not be completed. Try again, or contact support. Something else went wrong, for example a key for a different Thork Racing product. Check that it is a DMD2 license key. If it is, contact support.
Other problems

thorkracing.com says the key isn’t activated, but DMD2 says it is in use DMD2 doesn’t use the activation count on thorkracing.com. See One device at a time. Release the key in the app or on the HUB website.
My key isn’t on the HUB website’s Licenses page It was activated without signing in to the DMD HUB, or with a different HUB account. Contact support with your key and the e-mail you used at Thork Racing.
The License Check screen says Not Signed In, but my key is active DMD2 4.018 and earlier show your HUB sign-in there, not your key. Nothing to fix. Signing in is still worth it: it lets you manage the key yourself.

Contacting support

If none of the above helps, open a ticket on the support page and include:

  • your license key;
  • the e-mail address you used at Thork Racing, and your DMD HUB e-mail if it is different;
  • the device model and the DMD2 version (Settings → Global → App Update shows it);
  • the exact message the app shows (a photo is fine);
  • the diagnostic report: Settings → Global → License → Copy Debug Info, then paste it into your message.
