My Map Layers
Online maps you add to your HUB account — topo maps, aerial photos, trail and land-access overlays — appear in the HUB route planner and in DMD2 on every device signed in to your account. Add a map once; it is there everywhere.

Your Layers
Open My Map Layers from your account menu on the HUB website. The Preview map is on top and Your layers below it. Tap a layer to see it on the preview map, over a Map or Satellite background or on its own.
My Map Layers — the preview on top, your layers below, in the order they are drawn.
Each layer shows:
- a status dot: green = the last check loaded its tiles; amber = the test tiles were empty, often just the wrong spot (move the preview map to where the service has data and press Check it again); red = the service failed, with the reason in plain words;
- Base map (covers the map) or Overlay (drawn on top), the kind of service (Tiles, WMTS, WMS, ArcGIS), its zoom range and the credit shown on the map;
- On in the planner and On in DMD2: whether a new browser or device starts with it on. Each browser and device can still switch it on and off for itself;
- Opacity.
Order
Drag a layer by its handle (or focus the handle and use the arrow keys). The top layer is drawn on top.
Edit
Name, base map or overlay, opacity, zoom range, credit, and your key or login.
Delete
Removes it from the planner and from DMD2 on all your devices.
Adding a Layer
Add a layer has three tabs. Whichever you use, the map shows in the preview before you add it.
Add a map layer — the DMD library, with the picked map previewed on the right.
Paste an address
Paste a tile address with {z}/{x}/{y}, a WMTS or WMS address (the GetCapabilities address is fine), or an ArcGIS MapServer / ImageServer address, and press Find the map. The HUB works out the rest. When a service has several layers, pick one from the list. If it needs your own key or login, open This service needs my own key or login: keys are stored encrypted and only go to your own devices.
DMD library
Services DMD picked from official sources, with their terms checked: national topo maps, aerial photos, US land-access maps (USFS MVUM, BLM), trail overlays and more. Filter by region and kind; Preview shows one, Add adds it. A few need your own (usually free) key from the provider: paste it and press Check. Offline download OK means the provider allows downloading it in DMD2 for offline use.
Import
A file exported from My Map Layers, or a list of tile addresses, one per line (up to 20 at a time). Layers you already have are skipped.
Export saves your layers to a file. Keys and logins are left out unless you tick Include my keys and logins; keep such a file private.
In the Route Planner
In the Web Planner, your layers are under Layers & style → More Layers → Custom Layers, in the same order as in My Map Layers. Base maps go under the roads and the hillshade; overlays go over the map but under your tracks, routes and the map's labels.
- The tick switches a layer on or off in this browser only; your other browsers and DMD2 keep their own choice. A new browser starts with On in the planner.
- Each layer that is on has its own opacity slider, also for this browser only.
- A line under a layer says when the planner cannot show it (for example it shows in DMD2 only), or when its tiles keep failing (12 of the last 20 tiles failed (HTTP 403): often a missing or expired key).
- × removes the layer from your HUB account, so from the planner and DMD2 everywhere.
- Add a layer pastes an address or picks from the DMD library right in the planner, with the map previewed where you are. Manage on My map layers opens My Map Layers in a new tab; changes made there show in the planner when you come back to it.
In DMD2
Signed in to your HUB account, DMD2 lists your layers under User Links in Online Map Layers and in the Map Layers dialog of the Online Layers button, each with its own switch. A layer marked On in DMD2 starts on; what you switch on the unit stays on that unit.
- Add Custom Raster in DMD2 takes the same addresses as the website. The HUB works out the service, and the layer is saved to your account, so it shows in the planner and on your other devices too. Added while offline, it stays on the unit and goes to your account once you are signed in and online.
- A line under a layer says how it is doing: Working, 3 of 20 tiles failing with the reason, or what to fix on My Map Layers.
- Offline downloads include your layers when their provider allows offline copies. For a layer you added yourself, DMD2 reminds you to download it only if its provider allows it.
Good to Know
- Some services block web pages, or need a login a web page cannot send: the planner cannot draw them, and the layer's line there says it shows in DMD2 only.
- A service that only works over plain
http://(nothttps://) cannot be shown for now, in the planner or in DMD2. Look for anhttps://address for the same map. - Every layer keeps its provider's credit on the map.
- Your keys and private service addresses are never shown to anyone else.
- An account holds up to 200 layers.
