Devices

Pair the hardware you ride with — handlebar remotes, action cameras, an OBD2 dongle, tyre-pressure sensors, the DMD Power Box and more. DMD2 connects to each over Bluetooth, keeps them alive in the background, and surfaces their data on your Home rows, map overlays and the speedo.

The Devices Section

Open the Devices section from Section 1 of the bottom menu. Each accessory you've paired shows as a live card — an OBD2 gauge, the fuel gauge, the Power Box switches — with its connection status. A fresh profile starts empty; tap Add New Device to pair your first one.

Saved per profile

Your paired devices belong to the active rider profile (look for the cyan dot). Switch profile and DMD2 disconnects the old set and re-attaches this profile's — so your touring bike and your offroad bike can each keep their own accessories.

Auto-reconnect in the background

Once paired, a device reconnects on its own whenever it's in range — and stays connected while DMD2 runs in the background, so recordings, sensor data and remote control keep working on the move.

Arranging the rows

The section stacks its rows in a fixed order out of the box — OBD2, CAN cable, fuel, Power Box, BMW Sync Box, cameras, TPMS, then everything else. Tap the up/down arrows icon in the bottom menu (just left of Add New Device) to set your own order instead: one card per row, with an arrow each way to move it. Changes apply as you make them, so you can watch the list rearrange behind the panel.

Rows for hardware you haven’t paired stay hidden either way — moving one only decides where it lands if you add that device later. Reset to Default Order puts everything back. Like your paired devices, the order is saved per rider profile.

Adding a Device

Add New Device opens a grid of the supported device types. Pick one and DMD2 walks you through pairing — usually a Bluetooth scan that lists nearby units to tap, and for a few (the Power Box, OBD2 dongle) you pair once in your phone's Settings → Bluetooth first, then tap the device here.

Two of the types are virtual — the Fuel Level Simulator and the Generic Remote mapping — so they need no hardware to pair.
Every device here is free to add — the one exception is the Generic Remote Controller, which needs a license. See Free vs. Licensed.

Drive DMD2 without touching the screen — ideal with gloves on. Reach for the map, navigation, cameras or the roadbook from your handlebars.

Handlebar buttons

A Bluetooth handlebar remote whose buttons map to DMD2 actions — zoom and pan the map, switch section, control an active navigation, trigger cameras and page the roadbook. The button map is configurable and saved per profile.

Generic Remote Controller

Any keyboard / HID

Not using a DMD remote? Pair any Bluetooth keyboard or HID controller and map its keys to the same actions. Handy for third-party bar remotes that present as a keyboard.

Test Remote Keys

At the bottom of any remote's settings page — below the button map, above Reset to Defaults — is Test Remote Keys. It opens a full-screen falling-blocks game that is driven entirely by your own button assignments, so playing a round proves every button on the bars actually reaches the app.

Every key you have mapped on that remote is listed beside the board. Press it once and it turns green with a tick — the header counts x / y tested and shows ALL KEYS OK when you have exercised the lot.

  • A 360° joystick gets its own row with four direction pills, so a stick that only reports three directions is immediately obvious.
  • Press a button that isn't assigned and the game names it on screen (“Unassigned key: …”) — usually the reason a button seems to do nothing. Common D-pad keys still drive the piece, so the game stays playable while you sort the mapping out.
  • Long-press-only assignments show as Key check only: they share their physical button with a map function, so there is nothing extra for the game to do with them.
  • The music can be switched off with the button in the header. Tapping the board rotates the piece, so you can play without a remote paired at all.

Keys are only accepted from the remote you opened the test on, so a second remote on the bars can't tick boxes for the one you are checking.

DMD Device Buttons

The physical buttons on your DMD unit can be mapped inside DMD2 itself, alongside your remotes. They appear in the Devices list as DMD Device Buttons — a device you never paired, because it is the hardware you are already holding.

The buttons are handed over by the DMD Manage companion app, which is what physically receives them. Each button is either a Manage function or assigned to DMD2 — never both, so a press can only ever do one thing.
Which buttons you see

Only the buttons your unit actually has are listed, so there is nothing on screen you cannot press:

The zoom keys and the screen-lock key are deliberately not listed: their behaviour is fixed and always available, which is exactly what you want from the two controls you reach for without looking.

Three gestures per button

Every listed button carries three independent slots — Press, Long Press and Double Tap — and all three choose from the same list:

  • DMD2 functions — map zoom, GPX recording and waypoints, Quick Save Location, voice, trip and fuel resets, the theme toggles, screen orientation, and Group Help On / Off.
  • Quick Actions — the same catalogue the Remote Controller Menu offers, including the Conditional ones (finish navigation, skip next point, invert direction…) and one entry per paired action camera.
  • None — leaves that gesture doing nothing.

Anything the phone itself must do — switching apps, the notification shade, screenshots, the torch, brightness — stays in DMD Manage, because only Manage can perform those. Screen Touch Lock and Go to Device Home are the deliberate exceptions: they are frequent enough that both apps offer them.

Taking a button over

Open a button's card and one of two things happens. If DMD2 already owns it, you get the three slots. If Manage still owns it, the card says Assigned in Manage with a Take Assign button — one tap moves that button to DMD2, and the rest of your buttons stay exactly as they were. Simply mapping a gesture also takes the button over, so a mapping you make here can never sit idle behind a button Manage is still answering.

To hand one back, open DMD Manage and give that button a Manage function again. Forget device at the bottom of the editor hands all of them back at once.

Button mappings are stored per rider profile, like the rest of the Devices section — switch profile and your buttons change with it.

Vehicle Data, TPMS & Power Box

OBD2 Dongle

Bluetooth ELM327

A Bluetooth ELM327 dongle in the vehicle's OBD port streams live engine data — battery voltage, RPM, coolant and intake temperatures and more — onto your Home rows and map overlays. Most dongles pair with PIN 0000 or 1234.

CAN Cable

OBD via CAN

A direct CAN-bus cable that feeds OBD-style vehicle data through the DMD Manage companion — an alternative to a wireless dongle where a wired feed is preferred.

Engine Trouble Codes (check-engine light)

With an OBD2 dongle or CAN Cable set up, a check-engine (MIL) button appears in the Devices bottom bar. It stays white normally and turns red when the vehicle reports stored trouble codes — the count keeps itself current while the Devices section is on screen. Tap it to open the Engine Trouble Codes panel: read the stored and pending DTCs from the ECU (connect the adapter with the ignition on), and clear them once the underlying fault is fixed. Clearing resets the check-engine light and the readiness monitors, just like a workshop scan tool.

Choose what the gauges show

The compact OBD2 / CAN card carries three gauge cells, and each one is tap-to-reassign — tap a cell to open the sensor picker and drop any supported reading (voltage, RPM, coolant, intake temperature, speed…) into that slot. The picker hides unsupported sensors by default; flip Show Unsupported to see every sensor the standard defines, whether or not your vehicle answers for it. The CAN Cable has its own detail view for its wired feed.

DMD TPMS

Tyre pressure

DMD tyre-pressure sensors report each tyre's pressure and temperature live. A low-pressure or fast-deflation reading raises a priority alarm right in the speedo area. Add sensors one at a time; each becomes its own entry.

DMD Power Box

6-channel aux switch

A Bluetooth 6-channel auxiliary switch box — control your auxiliary lights, heated grips and other wiring straight from DMD2. Pair it from your phone's Bluetooth settings first, then tap it here.

Action Cameras

Pair an action camera to start and stop recording from DMD2 — from the Devices screen, a handlebar remote, or a map button. Three families are supported:

DJI

Action, 360 and Pocket models.

Insta360

X4, X3, ONE RS and ONE X2.

GoPro

HERO 9 through 13, and MAX.

With more than one camera paired, a record-all control starts or stops every camera together, so a single tap rolls all your angles at once.
The on-map camera overlay — the recording indicator you can place on the map — draws a label that scales with the overlay's size, so sizing the overlay up grows its label to match. A No Label option drops the text for a clean icon.

Fuel Simulator & iPhone

Fuel Level Simulator

Virtual — no hardware

No fuel sensor? Set your tank's range and this virtual gauge counts down remaining fuel and range from the distance you cover by GPS, and warns you when the tank runs low. Its remaining-range readout can sit on the map and your Home rows.

iPhone — Notification Mirror

Notifications & calls

Pair an iPhone over Bluetooth to mirror its notifications and calls onto the head unit (Apple's ANCS). If you also run the MiniLauncher companion, the phone link is handled there instead.

Every device here is saved per rider profile and reconnects automatically. Remove one from its entry in the Devices list when you no longer want it paired.
