Riding Groups
Ride together and see each other on the map in real time. Riding Groups tracks your buddies over LoRa and the internet — so you stay connected even with no phone signal — and adds group chat, shared GPX and locations, events, and a Help Me safety beacon.
Creating & Joining a Group
Open Riding Groups from the HUB. Your groups are split into My Groups (ones you own), Member Of (ones you've joined) and any Pending Invites waiting for you.
Riding Groups — your groups (with ACTIVE / SHARING pills), the ones you're a member of, and Create Group.
Create a Group
Tap Create Group, give it a name, an optional description and an avatar. You're the owner — now invite some riders.
Invite & Accept
Three ways in — by email, by a shareable link, or by picking a rider standing next to you. See Inviting Riders. Invites sent to you appear under Pending Invites to Accept or Reject.
Inviting Riders
Open a group, go to the Members tab and tap Invite Member at the bottom. Owners, admins and moderators can invite. There are three ways in, and you can mix them freely.
By Email
Type their email address and tap Send Invite. It lands in that rider's DMD HUB inbox the next time they sign in — they don't need an account yet.
By Invite Link
Tap Generate Link for a link anyone can open to join. Post it in a chat or a forum thread — you don't need their address.
Nearby
For riders standing right there. They tap Awaiting Group Invite, you pick them off a list, and they're in — no typing at all.
Invite Links
Before you generate one, two taps set how long it lasts — Expires (Never, 24 hours, 7 days, 30 days) and Limit (Unlimited, or 1, 5, 10 or 25 joins). Tap each button to cycle through the options, then Generate Link.
Once it exists you get Copy, Share and Revoke, with a line showing how many times it's been used and when it expires. Revoke asks twice — the button changes to Sure? and only kills the link on a second tap, so a knocked screen can't cut off a link you've already handed out.
Opening an Invite Link
When someone taps your link on a phone or head unit that has DMD installed, it opens in the app and shows a card naming the group and how many members it has. Nothing happens until they tap Join Group — a link on its own never adds anybody.
Without the app it opens the DMD HUB website instead, which offers to open the app or to sign in and join in the browser. And if the link reached them somewhere awkward — read on a laptop, copied out of an email — Join with Link at the bottom of the Riding Groups list takes a pasted link or code.
Nearby — Awaiting Group Invite
The quickest way to add someone you're standing with, and the only one that needs no addresses, no typing and no link.
- The rider joining opens Riding Groups and taps Awaiting Group Invite. They get a big 6-digit code and a countdown — they're visible for five minutes.
- You open Invite Member → Nearby. Riders who are waiting appear with their name and how far away they are, closest first. Tap one and they're in the group.
- If they're not on the list — a GPS fix that hasn't settled, or they're further off than expected — ask for their code and type it into Add by Code.
- Their device shows You were added to… straight away, with a Leave button next to it in case it wasn't the group they meant.
The Active Group & Sharing
One group at a time is your Active group — the one you're currently riding with. Set a group active, then choose what you share with it:
Share My Location
Share My Location to Active Group starts broadcasting your position so buddies can see you. A SHARING pill shows it's on; turn it off any time to go dark.
Share GPX
Per group, a GPX: ON / OFF switch shares your loaded tracks and routes with the group, so everyone can ride the same line. Shared files land in the group's Files tab. The group's active GPX loads onto every member's map by itself — and if the download can't complete right away (no signal at start-up, a network blip), DMD Next keeps retrying until it's there, falling back to its last saved copy offline. Rather not see it right now? Its row in Loaded GPX Files (the one with the GROUP pill) has a show/hide toggle — hiding is map-only and remembered per group, and showing it again is instant, no re-download.
One Device at a Time
Your account can share its location into a group from one device at a time. That's deliberate — if your phone in your pocket and your head unit on the bars both posted, your buddies would watch your pin jump between two positions.
So if you start sharing somewhere else — a second head unit, your phone, or the DMD HUB app — while another device is already sharing, DMD2 asks:
Device Conflict
“Another device (…) is sharing your location. Use this device instead?” — the name of the device currently sharing is shown, so you know which one it means.
- Use This Device — takes over. This device becomes the one sharing, and the other one stops.
- Cancel — leaves the other device in charge. You keep riding normally here; you just aren't the one posting to the group over the internet.
Live Buddy Tracking — LoRa + Internet
This is what makes Riding Groups special: your buddies show up live on the map, and DMD2 keeps them there over two channels at once.
LoRa — off the grid
With DMD LoRa hardware, group positions hop directly between bikes over long-range radio — no phone signal or data needed. Perfect for the backcountry where there's no coverage. These buddies carry a LoRa badge.
Internet — anywhere with data
When you have a connection, positions also flow through the HUB over the internet, tagged with a NET badge — so riders far apart, or without LoRa, still show up.
Member Status
Each buddy shows a live state — Online, Offline or Timed out (last-known position kept if they drop out) — and whether they're currently sharing location. Tap a member for their detail: their last position, status and a Navigate to member action.
Inside a Group
Open a group to find everything it shares, across five tabs. Owners, admins and moderators can also set — or remove — the group's active GPX from the actions above the tabs; both ask for confirmation first, since they change what every member sees on their map.

Members
Everyone in the group with their role (admin, moderator…) and live status; tap for detail and to navigate to them, or mute one you'd rather not follow.
Chat
A group message thread — coordinate stops, regroups and plans without leaving the app.
Files
GPX and files shared with the group — open one and tap Load to Map to put its track or route on your map (the button flips to Unload from Map while it's loaded). Downloading a copy or adding it to your personal collection is only offered when the file's owner allows it — view-only shares can still always be loaded to the map.
Events
Rides, meetups and rallies organised within the group.
Locations
Points the group has shared — the meeting spot, the fuel stop, the campsite — ready to navigate to.
Map Drawings
Sketch on the shared map — circle a hazard or draw a line — and the group sees it.
Help Me — Safety Beacon
If you come off, get stuck or need the group to come back for you, Help Me raises the alarm to everyone in your group — over LoRa and internet both, so it gets through even without signal.
I Need Help
The red I Need Help button (top of a group's Members tab, shown above) fires the beacon — the screen shows a HELP ON flag and your group is notified “<rider> needs help!” with a banner and a push, pointing them to your last location.
I'm OK
Clears the beacon once you're sorted, so the group knows the alarm is over.
Managing a Group
Edit
Owners can rename the group, change its description and avatar.
Leave
Step out of a group you've joined — you stop sharing and drop off everyone's map.
Delete
Owners can delete a group entirely, removing it for all members.
