Trip Journals

Every ride you share live from your DMD unit lands in Trip Journals. While it runs, you can pause, finish or post to it from here; afterwards, keep it as a journal with its map, photos, messages, your story and the GPX, and decide who can see it.

Your Trips

Trip Journals: a live trip strip for Picos de Europa loop with distance, moving time, items shared, watching now and followers at peak, and Copy public link, Open the live page, Pause, Finish and Add a message or photo buttons; below, Your journals with a live trip, a trip that ended on its own and will be deleted in 5 days with Keep as journal, and a kept journal

Trip Journals — a trip sharing live right now, and your journals below it.

A trip starts on the unit: start Trip Sharing from the map on your DMD unit and the ride shows up here. Each row under Your journals shows the date, distance, moving time, how many photos and notes it has and how many followers it had at its peak, with a badge:

  • Live or Paused while it is being shared;
  • Journal once you kept it, with Public link or Private link;
  • Ended on its own or Not kept, with the days left before it is deleted;
  • On the HUB when it is listed on Live Adventures.
  • Open opens the trip’s page, Copy link copies its address, Edit journal opens the editor and Delete deletes it.
  • A trip you did not keep is deleted after a few days. Keep as journal keeps it for good.
  • List on the HUB / Unlist from the HUB puts a ride on Live Adventures or takes it off. Read Listing a ride on the HUB before your first listing.
  • The search box finds a journal by name. My Trips in GPX Manager opens the My Trips folder of GPX Files, where the tracks of your kept trips are.

A Trip That Is Live

While your unit is sharing, a strip at the top of Trip Journals shows the ride: Sharing live now from your device, when it started, the distance and moving time so far, how many things you shared, how many people are watching now and the most at once.

Copy public link & Open the live page

Send the link to whoever should follow you, or open the page they see. What followers see describes it.

Pause, Resume & Finish

Pause stops your position on the page until you Resume. Finish asks first (Finish sharing): the trip ends now and is kept as a journal, and Anyone with the link can see the journal decides who can open it. Finish now confirms, Keep sharing goes back. Your unit follows on its next upload — within about half a minute while moving, a minute while paused — and uploads its GPX track to the journal.

Add a message or photo opens the quick-add page.

Quick Add from a Phone

Quick add from a phone (at the top of Trip Journals) opens hub.dmdnavigation.com/account/profile/trips/live. Bookmark it on your phone: while your unit shares, it posts onto the live trip without touching the unit.

  • a Message, a Photo or a Video link;
  • Save this place: the spot where you are, with a name, a category and a description — Also a waypoint in the trip’s GPX file adds it to the track too;
  • the Show on the HUB switch for the running trip, and Let followers chat while I ride.

Editing a Journal

Editing the journal Alps: Stelvio and Gavia: the Journal section with Title, Your story of the ride and Who can see the page; then Show on the HUB, Viewer chat, Share link with Copy and New link, and the Map section

The journal editor: your story, who can see it, listing, chat and the link.

Edit journal opens the editor. At the top: Open the trip page, Download GPX and Back to journals.

  • Journal: the Title and Your story of the ride — how it went, where you stopped, what surprised you — shown at the top of the trip page under the map.
  • Who can see the page: Anyone with the link or Only me.
  • GPX on the trip page: the page shows a GPX button once the track in My Trips is public and approved; it opens that file’s page.
Show on the HUB

List this journal on the HUB puts it under Recently finished on Live Adventures, with your photos, notes and places — if the ride is longer than 10 km. It is separate from who can open the link; a journal set to Only me stays off the page.

Viewer chat

Show the chat on this journal: signed-in HUB members can write in a chat beside the map. After the ride the chat plays back in step with Relive. You can delete any message and block people; Open the chat to read, reply or delete.

Share link

The trip’s public address, with Copy. New link makes a new address if the old one got around: anyone holding the old link loses access.

Map & timeline

Click the track to Add message, Add photo or Add video (a link) at that spot after the ride — its time is taken from when you passed there. In the timeline, edit the text of a message or caption, a place’s name, category and description, or hide or delete an item.

Turn a sideways photo

Now and then a camera saves a landscape shot as portrait (a tablet tilted back in its mount cannot tell which way is up). The two small buttons under the photo turn it a quarter turn left or right; the trip page, the apps and the copy on the trip’s GPX file follow.

Danger Zone

Delete this trip removes the map, photos, messages and the public page.

Live Adventures

Live in the top bar opens Live Adventures: the riders who listed their ride, on a map of who is out right now, filtered by continent and country. Follow live opens a ride. A strip of Recently finished journals longer than 10 km sits below.

  • The page is for signed-in riders only; a visitor without an account cannot browse who is out there. A trip’s own link works for anyone, with or without an account.
  • On a trip page anyone with the link can read; only HUB members can write in its chat.
  • A listed ride drops off after two hours without a new position, and comes back as soon as the rider rides on. Any location delay or trail limit the rider chose applies here too.

In DMD2

Starting a share on the unit, its privacy options (location delay, trail limit), listing, what followers see and the trip’s GPX are in Trip Sharing & Trip Journals in the DMD2 manual.
