GPX Files
Your whole GPX library on a big screen: upload tracks and routes, sort them into folders, see them on a map, edit their details, share them with a link or publish them to the community. Every change syncs to DMD2 and the HUB app.

The GPX Files Page
Open your avatar menu, or the account sidebar, and choose GPX Files. The number next to the title is how many files you have. Files are Private until you choose to make them public, and public files are checked by our team before other riders see them.
GPX Files with the map open: every file in its colour, the list of files beside it.
From the top:
- Community routing: whether your rides teach the planner (see below).
- Export, Restore and Personal Progress.
- The search box, Filters and the sort.
- Map shows or hides the map of your files; Comfortable and Compact set how tight the list is.
- New GPX and New Folder.
- On the left, Library (Root), your Folders and the Sources: Community Collection and Shared With Me.
The Map
The map shows every file in the folder or search you are looking at. Its own list, All files, has Find a file on the map, Only what's in view and a sort; the eye on a file hides or shows it. File colour colours the lines by your file colours or by the colours in the GPX files, with a legend of how many files have each. Options sets the base map, relief shading and whether placed photos show; the other two buttons make the map taller or full screen. Point at a line for its details, click it for its options. Every map on this page (the map of your files, a file's preview, its details and progress maps, the Attachments window) is the same map as the Web Planner's, with Roads or Satellite and relief shading.
Uploading Files
New GPX opens New GPX File with three choices:
Upload New
One file, with its details: the upload page has the same sections as editing a file.
Upload Multiple
Many files at once, into the folder you have open. You can also drop files straight onto the list.
Create with Planner
Plan a new route in the Web Planner and save it here.
Uploads take .gpx, .kml and .kmz files. A KML or KMZ from Google Earth or Google My Maps is turned into a GPX file with the same rules DMD2 uses: lines, areas and timed tracks become tracks, points become waypoints, and a KMZ with several layers becomes one file. It is kept as that GPX file, and its title is the map's name when it has one. A KML that only links to a map stored online has nothing to bring in: export the map itself and upload that. The Web Planner's Import takes KML and KMZ the same way.
New files are private. They reach DMD2 and the HUB app with the next sync.
Folders
New Folder makes a folder inside the one you have open; folders can hold other folders. Click a folder to open it, and Back to parent folder or the folder list on the left to go back. Each folder row shows how many items it holds and how many of its files are on the DMD2 map.
- Load to DMD2. A folder has the same switch as a file: switch it on and every file in it, sub-folders included, goes on the map in DMD2.
- Icon and colour. Right-click a folder to give it an icon (Default, Favorite, Moto, Navigation, Waypoints or Trails) and a colour. DMD2 and the HUB app show the same icon.
- Moving. Drag a folder, or several selected files, onto another folder; it asks Move … into …? first. Move to… in the right-click menu does the same.
- Deleting a folder that still holds files offers Move Files to Parent or Delete All, which deletes the files in it and in its sub-folders too.
- Public. Once you have a public file, a Public folder lists every file you made public, from all your folders, in one list: the ones other riders can see and the ones still Pending review. Each file says which folder it is in, the filters still work, and the map shows just these files. Show all files takes you back to Root.
The List, Search & Filters
Each file shows its name and where it is (continent and country), its Length, how many waypoints it has (Wpts), its Status (Private, Pending or Public) and its Loaded switch: on, and the file is on the map in DMD2 on every device. Then Navigate, View, Edit, a … menu and the arrow that opens its details.
- A file with no photo shows a small drawing of its route in the file's colour; a file with a photo carries the drawing as a badge on its corner. Point at a photo thumbnail and the photo opens larger, with an arrow to the file's other photos.
- Point at a file in the list or on the map to see its description.
- Selecting several: point at a file's icon and tick its box, or Shift- or Ctrl-click the files; the box at the top of the column ticks them all. While any are ticked, a bar at the bottom offers All, None and Invert, and Actions to colour them, switch Load to DMD2 on or off for all of them, make them count as ridden or not, download or delete them.
- On a narrow screen the list keeps the name, the length and, when there is room, the load switch; the file's details show the rest.
Search
The search box (Search names, notes and waypoints…) looks through your whole library. Folders are found by name; files by their name and by what is inside them: the description, the tags, and the names and notes of the waypoints, tracks and routes. A file found by what is inside it shows the text around the words under its name.
Filters & Sort
The filters sit in one panel under Filters, each with its name above it; Reset clears them all and the search. The first, Show, picks what the list takes in: My files, Shared with me and Community Collection, all ticked at first. Untick Community Collection and its folder leaves Root, and its files leave the search results, the filtered lists and the map; untick Shared with me and its folder leaves Root; untick My files to see only what other riders share. A folder you open still shows everything in it, and your browser remembers your choice. Then: colour, vehicle, difficulty, tags, Loaded (yes or no), a date range and Unpaved. The sort has twelve orders, from Date (new first) to Private first.
A File's Details
A file's details: actions on top, then its tabs.
Click a file, or its arrow, and its details open beside the list: Edit, Edit with Planner, Download, Duplicate, Move and Delete, its tags (type one to add it), and five tabs.
Counts as ridden: a file that counts is drawn in My ridden roads in the Web Planner, a layer only you see. Files in My Recordings and My Trips count unless you switch them off; switch it on for any other ride of yours, such as an old track from another GPS.
- Structure: how many tracks, routes and waypoints, the total distance, a map preview and the Elements list. A track or route you point at on the map, or an element you point at in the list, shows its own description. Right-click an element to Copy, Cut, Paste, Add to Planner Favorites or Delete it; drag one onto another file to copy it there.
- Details: the file's information. A recorded file also shows its Total time, Moving time, Avg speed and Max speed, from the times in its track, in your distance unit.
- Progress & Stats: how much of it you have ridden (below).
- Attachments: its PDFs and photos (below).
- Share Links: the links you made for it (below).
Progress & Stats
When you navigate a track in DMD2, the HUB keeps count of how much of it you have covered. A file's Progress & Stats tab shows Distance covered, Time invested, First ridden, Last ridden and your Personal best, and a Coverage map with what you have ridden and what you have not yet. Before you have ridden any of it, the tab says so and suggests navigating the track in DMD2.
Save what's left as a new GPX, under the coverage map, saves the red stretches of 500 m or more as a new private file in the same folder, named after the file with – unridden and the date. Each stretch is its own track, and the file's waypoints within 200 m of them come along. Download takes it straight away, and it syncs to your devices like any file.
Personal Progress, at the top of the page, puts all of it together: your own files, community tracks and Signature Tracks, with how many Tracks you have started, how many are Completed (90 % or more), the Distance covered and the Time invested. A track appears once you have covered at least 1 km and 1 % of it, and you can reset a track's progress. Nobody else sees it.
Attachments: PDFs & Photos
Keep PDFs and photos with your files and folders: a roadbook, a permit, a ferry ticket, the photos from the ride.
- On a file: right-click it and pick Attachments, or open its details and the Attachments tab.
- On a folder: right-click it and pick Attachments.
Drop PDFs or photos (JPEG or PNG) onto the window, or choose them. A file or folder with attachments shows a paperclip and how many in the list; click it to open them. In the window you can rename an attachment, give a photo a caption, change the order, download it, or delete it. On a file, the photo button makes a photo one of the file's own photos, Photo 1 to Photo 6 (you pick which; it replaces the one there), the photos the list and the file's page show first.
Photos on the track. A photo attached to a file is placed on its map by itself when it can be:
- where the photo was taken, when the camera or phone saved its position (a photo taken away from the track says how far it is from it);
- otherwise, when the file is a recording, by the time the photo was taken: where you were at that moment;
- otherwise not at all. Press the pin button next to the photo and click the track on the map in the window to place it yourself, or the map button to take it off again.
Placed photos show as round pins on the file's map in its details and on its page; click one to see it large. They also show on the map of all your files once you zoom in (Options › Photos turns them off), with the photo's caption, when it was taken and which file it belongs to, and in the Web Planner while you have that file open there. The photo is stored without its camera data, so its position is only where you see it on the map.
DMD2 and the HUB app show and open attachments; adding, renaming, placing and deleting them happen here. A PDF can be up to 30 MB and a photo up to 10 MB; each rider has room for 1 GB and 1,000 attachments in all. See Attachments in DMD2.
Editing a File
Edit GPX: the HUB Options card shows what is still needed to publish.
Edit opens the file's page. The top shows its name and the folder it is in (for example Root › Trips › Morocco), with its status: Private, Pending Approval or Approved & Public. The tabs jump to each section:
- GPX File: its length and counts, Download, Replace GPX file, and the fields stored inside the GPX (description, link, author, creation time).
- HUB Options: Make Public, Allow Download, Allow HUB Indexing.
- DMD2 App: tags and Show on DMD2 Map.
- Basic Information: Title, Public Description (with formatting) and Warnings.
- Location: Continent, Country, and State in the United States.
- GPX Details: Best Time to Ride, What did you ride it with (or plan it for)?, Largest vehicle it suits, Difficulty with that vehicle and the Off-road Percentage.
- Media: up to six photos, Photo 1 to Photo 6 (Photo 1 is the cover), and a YouTube Video URL. Choosing a new photo for a slot that already has one asks first: Replace it or Keep the current photo.
My defaults, at the top right, saves the values you use most (Save as my defaults) and fills them in later (Apply my defaults), which only fills the empty fields. Your defaults are kept on your account, so they work in every browser.
Save Changes saves the file; it syncs to your devices.
Publishing to the Community
Turn on Make Public under HUB Options to share a file with every DMD rider. The switch works once the checklist under it is complete: a Description (min 50 chars), a Continent, a Country, a Best time (at least one), a Vehicle (ridden with, or the largest it suits) and Photo 1.
Save, and the file is Pending Approval until our team approves it, then Approved & Public: other riders find it in the GPX Files HUB and in Discover in the apps, and you earn community points. Riders with more than 20 community points, and DMD Stars, are approved straight away.
- Allow Download lets riders download your original GPX file. Left off, they can still open and ride it in DMD2, locked and always your current version.
- Turn Make Public off again to take the file back to private.
Community Routing & Ride Details
Community routing, at the top of the page, says whether the HUB planner may learn from your GPX files and recordings, anonymously, so it can suggest the roads and tracks riders actually ride. This is not sharing: no rider sees your files. Only ways ridden by 3 or more riders count, the start and end of each ride are left out, and nothing points back to you. Until you answer it says Choose: Yes, let the planner learn or No thanks. A single file can opt out with Allow HUB Indexing in its HUB Options.
Each of your rides that helps map Community Ways asks Add this ride’s details: what you rode it with, how hard it was with that vehicle and how much was off-road. Not now puts it off, Don’t ask again stops it for all your rides, and Account & Security → GPX Files → Ask for a ride’s details turns it back on. A ride's Edit always takes the details.
Files From Other Riders
Under Sources, Community Collection holds the public files you saved from other riders, and Shared With Me the files sent to you with a Locked link. You can make folders in the Community Collection to sort them.
Right-click one: Open, View Details, Duplicate to My Files, Remove from Collection and Add to Planner Favorites.
Backup & Restore
Export → Backup All downloads your whole library as one ZIP. Every GPX file sits in a folder with the same name as in GPX Files, so you can open the backup on any computer. The ZIP also keeps what the GPX files alone don't hold: each file's title, description, warnings, tags, colour, difficulty and vehicle labels, off-road %, best season, country, whether it is loaded in DMD2, its photos (up to six), its attachments (PDFs and photos, with their captions and places on the map), and your folders' icons and attachments, including empty folders. Export can also download just the files you selected.
Restore, next to Export, brings a backup back:
- Choose the ZIP, or drop it onto the window. It can be up to 500 MB.
- The window says how many files, folders, photos and attachments the backup holds. Then choose:
- Where should it go? Into a new folder called Restored with the date (recommended, because one folder is easy to delete if you change your mind), or into your own folders, matched by name, with any folder you don't have made for you;
- Files I already have: skip them (recommended) or restore them as copies. A file counts as one you have when its GPX is exactly the same.
- Press Restore. A large backup takes a few minutes. If you close the window, the restore pauses; open Restore again within 7 days to carry on.
At the end, the window shows how many files came back and lists any it could not read. They reach DMD2 and the HUB app with the next sync.
The Public GPX Files HUB
Rides → All Tracks in the top bar opens the GPX Files HUB: every approved public file, for signed-in riders. Filter by search, continent, country, state, vehicle, best time and difficulty; Map shows or hides the map (filled blue while it is shown, and remembered). Signature Tracks jumps to the curated tracks, and My GPX Files back to this page. Open a file to read about it and save it to your Community Collection.
In DMD2
The same library is the GPX Manager in DMD2: the folders, files, colours and Loaded switches you set here are there too, and files you record or import on the bike show up here. Loading files on the map is in Loaded Files & Details, and what a GPX file holds in GPX: Tracks, Routes & Waypoints.
