For safety and convenience!

Groups in DMD2 is a great way to add safety and convenience to your ride. By creating a group with your riding friends you will be able to see everyone on the map, view and request "help" (that will call the attention of everyone in the group) and have a group GPX file that will sync among all the group members.

This feature currently requires an internet connection, you can add internet to your device either by adding a SIM card to it or by sharing your pocket phone internet connection with your navigation device. We are considering other methods for using this feature that will not require an internet connection.

Groups are also available in the DMD Navigation website, its there where you can create your account, create and manage groups and much more!

Step 1 - Create your account!

The first required step is to create an account in the DMD Navigation website. If you do not already have an account on our website you should start by creating one.

Please notice that it does not matter if you already purchased a DMD product or if you bought the app, account creation in the DMD website needs to be done manually by the user, it is not the same as an account created for Google Play Store or for any of our reseller online shop (including Thork Racing).

After creating your account we recommend that you spend some time adding the profile information!

Notice that the login information for the account you just created will be required to login in the DMD2 app side.

Step 2 - Create or join a group

Now its time to create your riding group! For the group to be available for location sharing in the DMD2 app it needs to be set to private or hidden otherwise it will not show in the DMD2 app.

If you want to join an already existing group that belongs to a friend of yours you should first send him a friend request, after accepting your request, your friend will be able to invite you to his group!

Step 3 - Login in the app

Start the DMD2 app on your device, tap the group button in the map view (check image), and login with the same account you just created in the website.

After you login the first thing you will see is the group selection dialog, you can only be active in one group at a time, but you can switch between group quickly from within the group manager dialog.

The Group Manager Dialog

The group manager dialog is where you manage everything about your group. Here is a list of the available information and features:

  1. On the left there is the list of group members - shows their icon, name, distance to you and current speed. When you tap on any member of the list you can view more details in the dialog center section (2)

  2. Center section shows the selected user details - status, last ping time (last time they communicated with the server) and location sharing state. You can also ignore the user (wont get alerts for him and wont show on the map). The "Navigate To" button on the bottom will start a navigation to the selected user location.

  3. On the right you will be able to set a group GPX if you are the group owner, bellow there is the "Help Me" button which will send out an alert to everyone in the group, and in the bottom you can enable or disable your location sharing, if you disable it no one in the group will view your position.

  4. The "Change Group" button allows you to switch between your groups. Remember, in the app, you can only have one active group at a time.

  5. The "Settings" button in the bottom is where you manage all the group related settings.

  6. the top right corner includes a "minimize" button that will make the dialog window take only half screen space, you can use this if you want to follow a user on the map. Tap minimize and then tap on the user you want to follow.

Warnings

In the group manager settings you will find all the available configurations for the different warning types.

Help Warnings - Setup the actions you want for when someone in your group asks for help.
Connection Timeout Warning - Setup the actions you want for when someone in your group stops communicating with the server (out of reach or device issue).

By default "Help Me" warnings will generate red screen flashes and set the group icon red, while for connection timeout, it will use the color orange.

We are currently working on more warning types, for example, distance based warnings, which will soon be available.

Highlight

Help Me Trigger!

When someone triggers the help me function everyone in the group, who is not ignoring you with the "Ignore User" setting, will see the alert.
The alert can be configured and it can play a voice warning, flash the screen edges in red color and show the group icon flashing red also. The rider icon on the map will also show a red border.

You can trigger the "Help Me" function in the group manager dialog, you can assign an hardware key in a DMD device to trigger SOS - using the Button app and the DMD SOS app will trigger the group Help Me when the key is pressed or a fall is detected.

Highlight

Group GPX

The Group GPX is not just a convenience that simplifies the sharing of a file among group users. It automatically loads and syncs the file whenever the group owner uploads, updates or deletes it. Everyone in the group is always in sync without needing the to anything.

The file is also encrypted and cannot be shared, which makes it a great feature to use on small events.
