Auto Off
Automatic Power Management for DMD Devices
The Auto Off app provides intelligent automatic power management for your DMD Navigation device. It monitors charging status, dock connectivity, ignition signals, and screen activity to automatically shutdown or suspend your device when configured conditions are met.

Overview
The Auto Off app runs as a background service that continuously monitors your device's power state. When it detects that your vehicle's power has been disconnected — whether through the USB charging cable, the device dock/holder, or the ignition wire — it initiates an automatic shutdown sequence.
This is especially useful for motorcycle and off-road riders who want their DMD device to automatically power down when they turn off their vehicle, without having to manually press the power button.
Power Monitoring
Detects when charging stops (USB or dock power disconnected)
Countdown Timer
Configurable warning countdown before shutdown, with cancel option
Smart Detection
Supports dock, ignition wire, and inactivity-based triggers
Settings & Configuration
Open the Auto Off app to access its settings screen. All options are presented in a single scrollable list.
Enable Auto Off
The master toggle that activates or deactivates the entire auto-shutdown system. When enabled, the app starts a background service that monitors your device's power state. When disabled, no automatic shutdown actions will occur.
Turn Off Action
Choose what happens when the auto-off condition is triggered:
Shutdown
Completely powers off the device. This is a full system shutdown — the device will need to be powered on manually or via dock power to restart. This is the default option.
Turn Off Screen
Puts the screen to sleep without shutting down the device. The device remains running in the background and can be woken by pressing the power button or by restoring power.
Message Timer
When the auto-off condition is triggered, a full-screen countdown dialog appears giving you time to cancel the shutdown. The timer value determines how long the countdown lasts before the action is executed.
Available Timer Options
- 5 seconds
- 10 seconds
- 15 seconds
- 20 seconds (default)
- 30 seconds
- 1 minute
- 2 minutes
- 5 minutes
- 10 minutes
- 15 minutes
The Countdown Dialog
When triggered, a full-screen overlay appears with:
- A countdown showing the remaining time
- A "Now" button to execute the action immediately
- A "Cancel" button to abort the shutdown
If you plug the device back in during the countdown, it is automatically cancelled.
Only When in Holder / M9 Connected
When enabled, the auto-off action will only trigger when the device is physically inserted in the dock/holder or connected via the M9 cable. This prevents the device from shutting down if you simply unplug a USB cable while holding the device in your hand.
This is useful for riders who sometimes use the device outside the mount — enabling this option ensures the auto-shutdown only activates when the device is in the vehicle mount and power is disconnected.
Device Compatibility
- T865X, T880X — Supports both dock/holder detection and M9 cable connection
- Norte — Supports M9 connection only (no dock with charging)
- T665 — Not supported (no dock detection or M9 connection)
Shutdown When Inactive
Enables automatic shutdown if the screen has been off for an extended period, regardless of charging status or dock state. This is useful for saving battery when the device has been left unused.
Idle Shutdown Delay
The amount of time the screen must remain off before the shutdown action is triggered:
Ignition Detection Wire (Green Wire)
Supported devices feature a dedicated ignition detection wire (the green wire in the wiring harness). When this feature is enabled, the app monitors the ignition wire for current. When the ignition is turned off (wire loses current), the configured shutdown action is triggered.
This is an alternative solution for users who connect the device harness directly to the vehicle battery instead of post-ignition, it allows the user to still trigger the shutdown event despite the device always receiving power.
How to Wire
Connect the green wire from your device's wiring harness to a switched 12V source on your vehicle — a circuit that is only powered when the ignition key is in the ON position. Common options include:
- Accessory circuit (ACC)
- Switched fuse box terminal
- Handlebar switch power feed
How It Works
The Auto Off app runs continuously as a background service. Here's what happens step by step:
The Auto Off service starts automatically at boot if enabled.
The service checks charging status, dock state, ignition wire, and screen activity every second.
Power disconnected, ignition off, or screen idle timeout — the app waits 5 seconds to confirm it's not a momentary interruption.
A full-screen countdown overlay appears. You can cancel or execute immediately.
Device shuts down or screen turns off, depending on your configured action. Plugging back in at any point cancels the process.
Background Service Notification
While the Auto Off service is running, you'll see a persistent notification in your notification bar:
Monitoring power status
This notification is required by Android for background services and cannot be removed while the service is active. It has no sound and minimal visual priority.
Troubleshooting
- Make sure Enable Auto Off is turned on.
- If using the "Only When in Holder" option (T865X/T880X/Norte), ensure the device is actually docked or M9 connected.
- Check that the USB cable provides charging, not just data. Some cables don't carry power.
- If using the ignition wire, verify the green wire is connected to a switched 12V source.
This usually indicates an intermittent power connection. Check:
- USB cable connections — ensure they are firmly seated.
- Dock contacts — clean any corrosion or debris.
- Increase the Message Timer to give yourself more time to cancel false triggers.
